« Chant de l’invisible » est une création issue de captations de paysages et de sons aquatiques, une composition hybride où le documentaire croise le poétique, dans un désir de refléter la nature insulaire de Montréal, au Québec, Canada. À partir de cette île, ce « paysage » reconstitué vise à cartographier autrement sa situation géographique bordée par le fleuve St-Laurent et la Rivière-des-Prairies, en explorant l’espace aquatique comme matière sonore, afin d’en saisir d’une part, les qualités et les spécificités acoustiques et d’autres parts, pour en dégager les évocations fictives.
Si les captations du présent projet réalisées avec un hydrophone (détecteur d’ondes acoustiques dans l’eau) et une caméra en divers points de la circonférence de l’île, semblent a priori de l’ordre de l’observation, j’ai voulu au demeurant, en déjouer l’axe documentaire par l’ajout de fragments textuels extraits de l’œuvre de Virginia Woolf, «The waves» (Les vagues) afin de provoquer un glissement vers le fictif. En évoquant la vie de cet univers sous-marin que nous n’entendons pas mais que nous pouvons fantasmer, ces fragments littéraires décontextualisés ponctuent l’alliance sonore/visuelle, tout en recomposant la complexité du paysage immergé qui captive l’imaginaire et met en évidence la richesse infinie des chants de la Terre.

“Chant de l’invisible” / “Song of the Invisible” is a creation resulting from filmed landscape recordings and aquatic sounds, a hybrid composition where the documentary intersects with the poetic, in a desire to reflect the insular nature of the city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec, in Canada. From this island, this reconstituted «landscape» aims to map in a different way the geographical situation encircled by the St. Lawrence River and the River of the Prairies, by exploring the aquatic space as sound material, in order to grasp on the one hand, its qualities and acoustic specificities and other hand, to bring out fictitious evocations.
If the recordings of the present project carried out with a hydrophone (detector of acoustic waves in water) and a camera at various points on the circumference of the island, seem a priori to be of the order of observation, I have wanted moreover to thwart the documentary axis by adding textual fragments taken from Virginia Woolf’s work, «The Waves» in order to provoke a shift towards fiction. By evoking the life of this underwater universe that we do not hear but that we can fantasize, these decontextualized literary fragments punctuate the sound/visual alliance, while recomposing the complexity of the submerged landscape that captivates the imagination and highlights evidence of the infinite richness of the songs of the Earth.
